Intercontinental Phu Quoc Long Beach Resort
A new favorite in the beach resort property category. Nice room and breakfast, welcoming staff and ample resort activities makes this a location I’d happily revisit in the future. 4.5/5.

Kimpton Da An Taipei
My first introduction to “luxury boutique”. I certainly enjoyed the room and location, but I’m definitely not the target audience for the more boutique leanings and sensibilities. 3.5/5.

Hotel Indigo Alishan
The polarizing reviews online all had valid points. On the negative side the room rate is expensive and the mountain/sunrise views are not truly panoramic with the surrounding buildings of the neighborhood. On the positive side the room, service and food were great. Overall it was an enjoyable stay for us, made more so by…

Holiday Inn Express Chiayi
This hotel punches way above the Holiday Inn Express class with huge rooms (and we got lucky with a massage chair in ours!) and great breakfast. If we weren’t so spoiled from the previous day in Holiday Inn Express Taichung (at a lower rate), this would easily have earned a 5 star rating. It hence…

Holiday Inn Express Taichung Park
Ratings are all about expectations, and this stay crushed them. For a sub-$100 stay at a Holiday Inn Express, they exceeded expectations at every step. Having stayed here in the past, I was quite impressed with the updates to the room and pool area to modernize the compound. The Christmas eve dinner was an unexpected highlight that makes me tempted to return next Christmas. Unfortunately, niggling issues (bathroom that still feels dated, some struggles in handling peak period crowds and…

Intercontinental Melbourne The Rialto
A hotel with a striking appearance both outside and in the common areas. A pity the rest of the stay (the room, in particular) feels a bit too standard. 3.5/5.

Holiday Inn Werribee
A new hotel with a beautiful lobby and rooms with all the modern design touches that help make a great stay. A great base to explore Victoria from, away from the hustle of the Melbourne CBD. 4.5/5.

Intercontinental Sorrento Mornington Peninsula
A gorgeous hotel in a beautiful town, but only if you have the cash or points to spare (try to get a least the Terrace rooms). 4/5.

Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport
A very enjoyable stay in an aging hotel. The 90s vibe was cool in the lobby, but not so much in the rooms. A renovation away from a solid recommendation for anyone needing an airport hotel. 3.5/5
